[I hoisted them, two drug dealers] -after Diane Seuss- for solo piano

(2021)

[I hoisted them, two drug dealers] -after Diane Seuss- is part of my ongoing open-set of pieces for piano called circlings. [I hoisted them, two drug dealers] takes the sonnet of this title by Seuss from her extraordinary collection frank: sonnets uses the text as a frame and source for generating material. By speaking the sonnet aloud numerous times with the intention of getting through it from beginning to end without break or mistake, I created an emotional map of the text and rhythmicized it. Register and intensity were overlay onto these rhythms using the same mapping technique. Pitches were only added at the end of the process.

I hoisted them, two drug dealers] -after Diane Seuss- is part of an ongoing set of solo piano works call "circlings" which I have written simply because I wanted to. That is all I can say.
